12 Sandburg Athletes Receive NJCAA All-Academic Honors

Twelve Carl Sandburg College student-athletes have received NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards for their exceptional performances in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year.
Four Sandburg athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic First-Team honors (4.0 GPA), two received second-team honors (3.80-3.99 GPA) and six earned third-team honors (3.60-3.79 GPA). Six Chargers teams had at least one recipient, with volleyball and softball each being represented five times to lead Chargers squads.
The honorees included two multi-sport athletes — sophomores Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Helena Wyant (Toulon, Ill./Stark County) — who each earned first-team honors for recording a 4.0 GPA. Mayberry was a member of the volleyball, women’s basketball and softball teams, while Wyant participated in volleyball and softball.
Wyant, men’s cross country sophomore Sebastian Arteaga (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and women’s basketball sophomore Juliette Camara (London Mills, Ill./Spoon River Valley) also earned NJCAA All-Academic awards in each of their two years at Sandburg.
